Rubens’ royal portraits

This exhibition looks at a little known yet essential part of Rubens’ career, royal portraits as he received commissions from kings, queens, princes and princesses from all over Europe. Most of these works show members of the Spanish and French Royal families, rulers of Flanders and Italian sovereigns. The exhibition also features prints of Marie de Medici Cycle, a series of 24 paintings by Rubens depicting the Queen’s life in allegorical terms that are kept in the Luxembourg Palace, now the French Senate.
